PSJA Early College High School and PSJA Memorial ECHS will each be getting new swimming facilities put in at their campuses. To celebrate the commencement of the projects, the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District hosted two groundbreaking ceremonies.
With the vision of the PSJA ISD school board, on which Attorney Jesse Zambrano serves as president, and the support of the community, students and others living in the area will soon have access to new instructional and competition pools at each campus. PSJA Aquatics Director Jonathan Landero envisions the facilities being used for various classes, programs, and other activities – the possibilities are plenty.
Currently, the Pharr Aquatics center serves as the main swimming facility for all 43 PSJA ISD schools. However, interest in swimming programs has increased, so new pools were needed to accommodate the many students preparing for competitions or enhancing their skills.
In addition to the two outdoor pools, the facilities will also have a multi-purpose room, dressing rooms, locker rooms with showers, restrooms, and an office.
In total, the project cost $11.8 million, and it demonstrates the PSJA ISD’s commitment to not only educating students but also providing them with opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities. By supporting students both in academics and sports, they get the best and are also encouraged to do their best.
